BAE BOATS was created out of a love for travel and adventure. Like many families during the pandemic the owners, Robyn and Logan, were looking for creative ways to seek adventure with their three children. After months of exploring Bay Area hiking and biking trails, they discovered electric boats. They were instantly hooked and wanted to help bring that same thrill of being on the water to the people of Alameda.

Unlike most boat operations, you can take to the waters and operate one of their vessels after a short safety briefing (as long as you are over 21 with a valid driver’s license). Guests on the boat can be any age. That makes BAE boats a fun, unique activity for everyone. We recently sat down with Robyn and Logan to learn more about their business.

What’s something few people know about your business?

We are a woman and black-owned business.

Are there common misconceptions in your industry that you’d like to address?

Our boats are easy to operate. The top speed is 6 mph. They are very quiet and emissions-free, which makes them perfect for corporate networking events or celebrations like birthdays and anniversaries.

What drives your passion and sets you apart from others?

Sustainability is at the core of what we do. All our boats are emissions-free and electric. Our goal is to leave the environment and community better off than before BAE Boats was started in 2021.

Why should someone choose BAE Boats?

We are a mission-driven boat rental company. We believe everyone should experience the joy and relaxation of cruising in our emissions-free electric boats.

Can you share a unique or unexpected story about how your business started or a challenge you overcame?

We called every marina on the Oakland Estuary prior to opening in 2021. Most didn’t return our call or discouraged us because we were a new business. We were fortunate to meet the team at Grand Marina where we still operate. They were supportive and collaborative as we got BAE Boats up and running.

What’s one local Alameda product or experience that you feel complements your business?

A charcuterie platter from Mosley’s Cafe.

How is your business contributing to positive changes or innovations in Alameda?

We have donated boat rental packages to many schools in Alameda for their annual fundraisers and sponsored local community events like the Alameda Summer Art Fair and Maker Market as well as The Lighted Yacht Parade. We also offer educator and military discounts to support our community.

What exciting things are you working on that you want to share with the community?

We plan to continue to expand our fleet and might add a second location in 2024.

BAE Boats also offers gift certificates for those of you looking for a unique surprise for that special someone.
